The pharmacy behind the clinic
Ear care from a team that has been part of Urmston's everyday health for years.
Davyhulme Pharmacy sits at 179-181 Canterbury Road, a few minutes from Urmston town centre. Like most good local pharmacies it spends its days dispensing prescriptions, answering questions over the counter, and knowing a decent share of its patients by name. The ear wax removal clinic grew out of exactly that everyday work.
Why a pharmacy runs an ear clinic
Week after week, people were coming to the counter with the same story: a blocked ear, a GP practice that no longer offers syringing, and no idea where to turn next. Ear wax removal is no longer a core GP service in most areas, and local NHS access is referral-based and restricted. For most people in Urmston that means the practical options are a private clinic in town or a trek into Manchester.
We decided the sensible place for that service was the pharmacy people already visit. No referral, no travel into the city, and prices that a pharmacy can sustain: £40 for one ear, £60 for both, and nothing to pay if your ears turn out not to need clearing.
Who does the work
Microsuction at our clinic is performed by clinicians trained in the technique, working under the pharmacy's professional standards. Every appointment starts with a proper examination of both ears and ends with aftercare advice, because removal without explanation is only half a service.
The pharmacy is a GPhC-registered premises (registration 1091237), and the superintendent pharmacist is Muhammad Adnan, GPhC registration 2073652. You can verify both on the General Pharmaceutical Council's public register.
What we believe an ear clinic owes you
- An honest look before any procedure. The examination comes first, and if there is nothing to remove we say so and charge nothing.
- A gentle method. We use microsuction: dry, precise, carried out under direct vision, and usually well tolerated. It is a safe, widely used method when performed by a trained clinician.
- Plain English. You will hear what we found, what we did and what to do next, without jargon.
- Knowing our limits. We treat adults aged 18 and over, and we do not treat infections, sudden hearing loss or painful ears. Those need a doctor, and we will tell you straight away rather than sell you an appointment.
Beyond ear care
Because the clinic lives inside a working pharmacy, the visit can do double duty. Prescription queries, medicine reviews, travel health and the everyday questions you would normally save for the counter can all be handled in the same trip. Many of our ear patients first came through the door for something else entirely.
